Soddum Hall

Very early this morning when the sky was melting from grey to peach, I drove from High Legh to Hale.

To my left a line of longboats straddled the Bridgewater Canal, showing the first signs of life. One particularly nifty craft stood out.

Navy blue gloss and bright brass trim, topped with scarlet geraniums in black buckets, and secured by two thick white ropes; the Soddum Hall cocked a snoop at the other rather scruffy looking barges on the beat.
